Coach Philip Shaw continues to promote table tennis in Cork schools. Today Friday 21st April he invited Jing Yi Graham, TTI Women in Sport Lead & Participation Coach for Table Tennis Ireland, to St Mary’s on the Hill and Strawberry Hill primary schools for coaching to 50+ pupils – a great day was had by all!
Munster Table Tennis, in partnership with Cork Sports Partnership, hosted two Activator Award (formerly Teachers Award) courses in Cork on 20 April. The courses were delivered by Jing Yi Graham, Women in Sport Coordinator and Participation Coach Table Tennis Ireland (TTI), supported by Munster TT coaches. A total of 24 participants, drawn from 18 schools, services and community organisations in Cork City and County, attended the courses.
The Activator Award is designed to provide attendees with the skills and knowledge to conduct games and training drills at a basic level. TTI provides certification for course completion and free associate membership of TTI to those who complete the half day course.
Participants will be supported by Munster TT to introduce or to further develop table tennis in their respective schools, services, or community organisation in the period after the courses. Participants will also have the opportunity to complete the level 1 coaching badge course in Cork on 02/03 September 2023 should they wish to acquire more formal qualifications in table tennis.
In addition, Munster Table Tennis, in partnership with Cork Sports Partnership, completed its final session in the current series of Women In Sport programmes in Cork on the 20 April – the current series had commenced on 09 March and was delivered by Munster TT coaches. The final session was delivered by Jing Yi Graham, Women in Sport Coordinator and Participation Coach Table Tennis Ireland (TTI), supported by Munster TT coaches. A total of 13 participants were involved and TTI presented a small gift of customised towel ware to the participants to mark the occasion and their commitment to participation.

Munster TT entered three teams in this year’s competition, which was held in the University of Maynooth, Kildare on 15/16 April. On Saturday 15th the Senior team finished fouth, alot of close five set matches with Thuy Linh Cashman our best performer winning four out of a possible six matches. The Veteran team, which was notable in that we welcomed back Anthony Redmond, Colm Carew and Catherine Morrissey to Inter Pro competition after a number of years absence, finished a very creditable third. Sunday 16th saw the Junior Boys beat Leinster – the first time this has happened in a very long time – while losing to eventual winners, Ulster, so an excellent second finish. Well done to all our players for their efforts over the weekend and thanks to coaches Alan Hurley and Philip Shaw.
